I produced this original painting for my friend Jose Luis Caparros who wanted to revive La Carrera Classic, a race that took place in the Baja California Peninsula, Mexico. This was a road race that went, originally, from the port city of Ensenada to San Felipe, on the other side of the peninsula, and back. The organizers closed the Ruta 3 and the cars (in some years they also had a motorcycle class) started rally-style every minute. However, the closing of the important road created some problems for the local traffic and the race changed the format in the later editions going to Ensenada to La Mision and back until it was cancelled by the middle of the 2000s. This was a very popular event for US racers that crossed the border to share the road with many local teams and enjoy he camaraderie and the party atmosphere in the lovely town of Ensenada. I was fortunate to do several editions of this race. Jose Luis Caparros started working on this project, but for various reasons he wasn't able to get it off the ground. In order to start the promotions he commissioned this artwork since I had done many posters for La Carrera Classic. Unfortunately, this piece remained unpublished and he wanted me to sell it for him. The original art, a watercolor on illustration board, doesn't have the logo.
